I have a Hunter Legend 45 build in 1989 (the only one I've seen so far in Europe)

The refrigerator is from Adler Barbour.
There are two “cold plates” mounted in the fridge box.
Now the compressor is blocked.

Can someone help me with the following questions?

1. What is the measurement of the screw-thread of the couplings between the compressor and the cold plates?
2. What fluid/gas was used in those years?
3. What is the fluid/gas used today?
4. Are those two fluids/gasses compatible?
As I’m living in Belgium I prefer to by the new compressor here in Europe, therefore I need this information.

Thanks in advance

Hi Willy, my answers to your questions:

1. No idea.
2. Ours was and remains R-22 freon.
3. Non-freon refrigerant R-12.
4. No. Systems today have a different design to handle the newer refrigerants. These newer refrigerants will not work in the old systems.

I would start with AB to see whether you can get a replacement compressor.

Hi Willy, just a note of clarification. I am not a refrigerant expert, novice, or otherwise. What I do know from experience is that our original 1991 system uses a freon based refrigerant, which is no longer used in new systems. If your compressor has failed, some contractors will work on your old system, at least they did on mine when I had to have it recharged.

An alternative is to replace your entire system that uses the newer refrigerants, a bit expensive. If you can find a contractor who will work on your system, perhaps he can find a replacement freon based compressor for you at a lower cost than replacing the entire system.

Hey Terry thanks for your reply.

Do you think that a if contractor rinses my "cold plates", they will work with the new Non-freon refrigerant R-12?
Because the most compressors that I find (I've found some replacement types from AB), are pre-filled with a refrigerant.

To replace the entire system is very difficult.

Hi Willy, I do not think so. Perhaps there is someone here that might provide you with a more accurate answer to that question. Sorry.
