I need help. I have an icebox frig. I have looked all over the boat for the compressor. I went through the owners manual and cannot find any reference to a frig, except in the boat schematic, that shows the two doors in the counter top. There is nothing in the 12Vt or 120 schematics for a frig, but I have a 12Vt circuit breaker on my panel. The frig runs off 120 when hooked up to shore power, and then the batteries off shore.

Is this an after market installation?

Anyone else have one of these, and if so where the heck is the compressor??

They are generally in a place that has plenty of air flow. Follow the line that goes into the condenser...probably aft(where mine was).

It goes out the port stern side of the icebox at a height that would put it in my rear berth on top of my mattress.I re-pulled the mattress and double checked under the bunk - and nothing.

I am totally baffled as to where the damn thing is.

Unless it is under the icebox, and if so there is no way to get to it without pulling the whole thing out.

What baffles me even more that there is NOTHING in the owners manual about a frig AT ALL!!!! Nothing on the electric schematics.

Is there someone out there with an O'Day 40 that can tell me???

You need to give us a few clues.
Did you just by this boat?
Did the refrigeration ever work?

With boats of this age it's likely to be an aftermarket. The compressor could be anywhere. But wagering that it is on the engine. The 12 volt breaker energizes the clutch.

MY mistake!!! you said it ran off 120v on shore power. Can't be on the engine.

Maybe it was never installed or was engine driven and removed. My boat had a sea frost holding plate, but the engine driven comp must of been on the original engine.

I bought the boat 3 years ago.
the frig works - but it is not cooling as well as it was, so I am thinking it needs more freon, but can't do much if I can't find it.

Hello,

You have an aftermarket installation. That's why there is nothing in the owner's manual.

Good luck finding it.
