O'Day 39 Olympia
I got a great project this week, an O'Day 39. The port window was missing and the galley rotted away. I want to remove the original fridge and replace it with a standard norcold maybe forward of the nav station. Has anyone done this upgrade. Any other ideas for the galley. Maybe a corner sink like the 40's.

Welcome to the club!!!!

A few comments.... I do not believe O'day offered a fridge in the 39. It's likely a PO install. The standard configuration had top loading icebox on the port side next to the range. As with most boat of that era , it was poorly insulated. Please take your time before grabbing the saw and crowbar. bounce your ideas off the guys on this site. They have a lot of experience with modifications and you will find that O'day incorporated many things in the 39 that had been in use on other O'day boats.
You made two wise choices so far. Buying the boat (they are a great value) and finding this site. You're on a roll.

I refurbed my boat two years ago and redid the the galley. The work on the galley is on and around page seven. http://forums.oday.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=132435&page=7

More information is on my website at http://panta-rhei.weebly.com/the-boat.html you wil find the original O'day ads showing the galley.

I installed a refrigerator on the starboard side just across from the sink.with the door opening toward the galley. It's a Norcold 12/24 120/240 I'm very happy with it . I replaced the decorative panel with a stainless sheet. The location works out great. My boat was sold into the caribbean charter industry. It has an had an extra icebox/ bar in place of the nav station. I gutted the ice box but left the lid in place for access to wiring and the fridge. It also give us a dry area to store charts.

ice box

I mispoke. The ice box is in place, with a cold plate in it. I have decided I don't really want to abandon it, I would like to add a refer or freezer in place of the chart table. The storage would be good and who the heck uses a chart table anyway.
