We bought a 1996 Oceanis 351 in the late fall and being doing minor repairs getting it ready for the spring. The gas strut and mounts for the refrigerator lid are missing and opening and keeping the lid open is a pain. Any one have the details on the lifting strut- length and force?? Beneteau USA acknowledges that a gas strut was used, but has no details or where to get one. There are a number of places on the web to buy the struts if you have the details. Help and thanks !!!!!

Lid Support Spring

Try West Marine, there are two items that may work if you want to replace the gas strut.

1. "Lid Support Spring"
2. "Hatch Arm"

My 381 had a "Hatch Arm" as original equipment on the Freezer lid and nav station desk lid. I found the replacement item at West marine. I think there are to or three lengths.

Tak,
Appreciate the info. Do you know the approximate weight of your freezer lid? Mine requires 12# of force to lift. from the side opposite the hinges.

Thanks again,

Johnny

Sea Dog Line hardware

I've seen both gas struts and the hatch springs. Ours has the hatch spring and it is definitely up to the job of supporting the freezer lid. The manufacturer is SeaDog (depicted in TAK's photo). They make at least two sizes of that spring and Beneteau uses both. The smaller version is often used to support the chart table lid. We have spring p/n 321675. Sea-Dog also makes a range of gas struts, so you may find one that fits your mounting dimensions.

look under "gas lift" or alternatively "hatch spring"
