Refrigerator hinge

Anyone out there with a frig ever put hinges on the cover? My wife has a hard time negotiating the cover (heavy) and bounces it around. I was thinking of adding a few hinges so it swings up to port.

Sure, Bob, many of us have done it on our boats, similar top design, different side of the boat! Here are some pictures of hinges and spring hold-ups, look at page 1, too.

Different skippers used different hinges. I've heard of folks using piano hinges, but that's way overkill.

Do it, you'll love it.

Ordered a pair from McMaster Carr and installed them. Works great. I was able to cover a chip that happened when the cover dropped :dance:.

Not sure I can install the spring because there is a lip all around and the sppring would keep the cover from seating. It looks like I'd have to screw it into the protruding section of the cover which I believe is hollow and thin walled.
