Hello all
So one of my winter projects was to re-insulate, reinforce and generally clean up the doors to the frig and freezer. Have new gaskets but wondering which side faces in and which out….. have my opinion how it was but did not take pictures or even think about it when I was removing.

thanks
Greg

It would be helpful to see the door or edge the gasket attaches to.

Offhand, I'd guess the round side goes out and the flat side slides into a track or is glued to a frame.

Hi just did mine and the flat side should go to the outside. That is where the magnet is so that the magnetic seal
sticks to the door frame.

So based on the curves of the ones I took off, they had the smooth curved side “in” and flatter side “out”. Here’s a picture of the door. And there are no magnets….. old school close and latch.

thanks

Is there a magnet in part of the gasket? The flat side looks like it could contain a magnet…if so, I would think that part makes contact with the lid.

i just checked my home fridge just out of curiosity and the newer gasket on it has a flat magnet embedded in the gasket that sticks to the steel door opening of the fridge when I close the door.

If there is a magnetic in the gasket, then the magnetic side should be where it can contact the metal on the refrigerator. Testing for a magnet should be pretty easy, find a piece of iron or steel, does it stick.

Picture 3 the part close to my thumb so it sits tall. The gasket has a flat side on the bottom part that has a peal and stick. You can actually see the blue peal tape in picture 2. In all of the pictures the gasket is in correct orientation.

thanks

Yes that is the part that attaches to the door, if the original door had the seal.

Now you have me thinking, is my seal on the lid or the box? hmmmmm. Amazing we sometimes just don' t pay attention to the little details. After searching through a few hundred photos I found one that shows the seal on my refrigerator is on the box not the lid. Mine is a flat gasket. I think I just took you back to square one.

Great……. Now I have to go to the boat and see if it appears better to put the gasket on the box versus the door. I hate good ideas sometimes.

Thanks

Just a WAG (Wild A$$ Guess) - looking at that door, I'd say your seal adheres to the box.

It doesn't actually matter which side the seal is attached. Usually the seal is put where it will get the least amount of abuse during use or is better protected from being torn off. Of course there are also seals that have designed in "seats".
