I'd like to install a fridge in the boat. Any experiences with this in converting the ice box? All I see out there is A/B (which has some negative comments on the West Mar site), and Grunert. Looks like AC or AC/DC or plain DC; air cooled vs water cooled; or engine driven. Whats the best/chespeat/easient way to cool the beer (besides a bag of ice)?

My husband just finished installing a Technautics unit in our ice box which is 12 volt driven only. I have sent this information to my husband who can answer all your questions. We spent one Annapolis boat show studying refrigeration units. Carol

We have a refrigeration unit on our '87. Maybe installed when new. Still works. The oval takes up most of the center of the small box, Inside the oval everything freezes. Outside the milk & orange juice stay cool. I'll check mfr and msg later. Boat is still on the hard as we are renovating it.

Question for Eric

Did you get your boat? Is it the one in the Cheasepake? (there are none for sale now on Yachtworld).

Happy with A/B

We were spared the task of selecting the best system for our Ericson 38 since the previous owner had bought one but not installed it. It's an air cooled, DC-only Waeco (A/B) CU84/VD09. It took us a day install it, with the compressor sliding into a space under the galley drawers and brackets we fabricated from from Starboard to mount the evaporator. It has performed well even during the heat of summer. The only problems we've had are due to aged batteries and charging system (to be replaced this weekend!). It does have a low-voltage cutoff so using the correct wire size is important to minimize drop. The unit does tend to run a greater percentage of the time than I expected but doesn't seem to draw more than the published 5A. Good Luck!

fridge

thanks for the advice. I put a contract on the one in the Chesapeake that was on Yachtworld. Accepted. We settle in 2 weeks. Maybe it'll stop raining by then. I'm really looking forward to this boat. btw the E28 is listed on Yachtworld.

Refrigeration for Ericsons

For some extensive articles on this topic, use the Search function in the Forums section at Ericsonyachts.org. Lots of info and photos. I went with a Frigoboat "keel cooler" system several years ago and have had no problems and the AH usage is quite low. Loren
