I have a Hunter 30 (1979)Cherubini, great boat, very forgiving! I still have the original refigeration system, which is not sufficient for my families use. Would like to install something new and efficient, but I would also like to keep the new item within the confinds of the old box, or footprint, so to speak. Any suggestions on manufacture models and types, as well as installation guidance would be appreciated! Thanks Sandy Mace

recently had a grunert installed

I have a 1979 37ft cutter, so the box may be a little larger than your boat. The model I had installed is the Polar Mate with the small evaporator. (This is exactly the same as the Alder-Barbour Coldmachine with the small evaporator - I got a better price on the Polar Mate. Same Danfoss compressor, same evaporator, same thermostat.) Insulate the box! My insulation was in good or fare condition, but I added a lot, and am considering adding more on the interior of the box.... but I hate to give up the space.

Also an H37C.

Installing an A/B(related link) to replace an old cold plate that was 110v only. I bought the small horizontal evaporator. It will sit near the back on a shelf allowing access to the deep parts of the box. It has spring-hinged door on the front that will allow for ice cubes we hope. The condensor will sit on top of the icebox in the starboard locker. The Sailnet link has dimensions of the condensor and evaporator which may help with your plan. The best place for the condensor is where it can draw the coolest air. But you have to consider the run of the tubing and wiring, to the box and to electrical. Where I am placing mine I can take the 12V right off the back of the battery switch. I'll have to incorporate a switch and a circuit breaker but it will give me a solid 12 volts on heavy cable.
