We want to install refrigeration on our 33.5. Would like suggestions on which manufacturer, model, how well it works, best installation method, do we need and extra battery, best way to charge, etc. etc. etc. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts

We have a Technautics Marine.

Chris: We have a Technautics Marine unit. It works well. It has a holding plate that is about 2.5" thick. You need to insulate before you install ANY unit. How much insulation can you add and where. How much battery power do you have available and how much do you want to run your engine. I added two AGM 100 amp batteries on a single bank. They are dedicated to the refrigeration only. We also have a Statpower 40 charger. All of these things need to be brought into your budget planning. Seems like the sailors with the AB units are generally happy. I'd do some shopping around and see which units you think are going to perform best for the money that you are going to spend.

Other options.

There was a long thread recently about thermoelectrics. I have attached a LINK below. This unit was touted by one of our regular contributors. If I was sure my boat was going to stay above the Mason-Dixon it would be my first choice(cool waters). Or this one: http://www.askelandinc.com/ Their low amperage requirement is very appealing. As is the low cost.

I went with a E-Z Kold

Their phone number is (613) 476-9881. Their website.. is old but the people are great.. They build the holding plate/box to my instruction. I put the unit in the cabin on the starboard side. You can hear the fan run but I am outside most of the time.. I also put in 2 golf cart batteries just for the refig.
