refrigeration help!

I have a holding plate system on my Morgan 43, with the water-cooled unit being mounted in the engine room. Normally requires ~2 hrs run time per day (split into 1 hrs segments) to keep both fridge and freezer at operating temperatures with liveaboard use. I have no idea what type of system this is, but lately the cooling has been notably lacking following a blockage of the water flow and subsequent burning smell (not in the engine room, just in the cockpit). I'm not sure what caused the blockage as the sea strainer was clean, although I suspect that I have barnacles and other creatures growing in the tubing and the water flow is simply restricted, although not obviously so. Is the system salvagable, and how? If I try to clean out the water-cooling pipes, could this possibly solve the problem? What about the burning smell (unfortunately it doesn't shut off when not cooled sufficiently)? Any help and suggestions would be appreciated (I'm slightly mechanically inclined and electically hopeless when it comes to the engine room, although I can track down when I don't have power to something). Could be high head pressure

I am going to refrigeration school right now so I know just enough to be dangours. It sounds like you have high head pressure in the compressor. Anytime you stop the cooling of the condesor you can get high head pressure. The burning smell could of been the oil in the compressor. It sounds like you will have to have someone who knows what they are going as it will take some special tools to fix the system.

burning Smell

Are you still pumping water? Smell could have been impeller in water pump, and if it is not pumping, the refrigeration will run forever. Just a thought.
