Refrigeration doesn't seem cold enough

It doesn't seem like the stuff in the refrigerator is cold enough. Also, the freezer has some ice build-up. Since this is a new boat, the seals appear to be OK. Any suggestions?

refridgeration

Don't know what Hunter is using currently. Seems to be an ongoing concern. Costs me a couple of grand to get it working properly on my 98 410. Ended up installing a separate system for both the fridge and freezer. My 98 had a single Grunert 500BBTU for both freezer and fridge. Would work as an almost fridge on both sides. what type?

John, the early 410s had grunnert (polarmate) systems, while the newer ones have adler-barber (cold machine)systems. People might be more able to help you if they know what you've got. Regardless, you will periodically need to defrost the plates if you run the system 24/7/365. DON'T SCRAPE! The fastest way, according to my fridge repair guy, is to run warm water over the plates and then blow dry them.

It is an Adler-Barber system

I'm not so much worried about the freezer as I am wondering about the level of cold in the frige. Could this be a freon leak? The boat is so new that I can't believe that something like this has gone wrong.

Check for air leaks.

Hi, Our 1,990 H410 had the same problem. We have the Grunert compressor. The box was far from being airtight: by simply passing your hand in front of any of the three doors you could notice how the cold air was leaking (and if air goes out it also gets in, increasing the amount of ice buildup) After complaining many times to the Hunter dealer, they proceeded to improve the sealing of the doors. They put self adherent compact foam stripes on all the contact edges. The sealing is not yet perfect, but now the refrigerator can be called as such(Before the name it deserved was a shoe box) Results: a MUCH better performance of the system. Now the freezer makes ice and we have to be careful no to frozen the lettuce on the fridge. We still have frost but much less. The Grunert proved to be powerful enough to do the job, the BIG problem is the poor sealing of the box. Downside: the top doors outstand a bit over the working surface, but is not very obvious. Hope this helps, Rafael Marinaclara Valencia

Add spray insulation

You may want to check the insulation around the box. Occassionally gaps are unnoticed. A can of spray insullation can improve the insulation . . . even on new boats.

REFIG PROBLEM IN 410

MY 410 HAS A SIMILAR PROBLEM. I HAD A REFRIG. SERVICE TECH LOOK AT IT WITH NO SUCCESS. I HEARD THAT HUNTER PUT A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT CONCERNING THIS AND CHANGED TO ANOTHER MANUFACTURER. BUT HAVENOT FOLLOWED UP ON IT YET. WE DID NOTICE THAT THE COMPRESSOR IS CONSTANTLY CYCLING. WE WILL PROBABLY CHANGE THE SYSTEM.
