I have been reading about the refrigeration units that can serve double duty as an A/C unit. Glacier Bay calls their's the "Artic Air". Does any one have experience with these or other similar units?

Dual-Purpose Compressor

The Glacier Bay concept of utilizing the Holding Plate Refrigeration Compressor (run 1-2 hrs/day) for Air-Conditioning impressed me, when I first saw it in 1992 (Annapolis Boat Show). At that time, they were offering the "Arctic Air" conversion kit, free as a boat-show 'special'. I got the opportunity to install one the following summer (‘93), but the owner took off cruising & I haven’t seen it/him since. Glacier Bay’s gear was a pleasure to work with; but cannot testify as to it’s long-term operation. The Glacier Bay Boat Show representative advised going Top of the Line [his stuff :)] - or Bottom of the Line [Addler-Barbour, etc] on refrigeration; convincingly arguing that the intermediate-cost equipment did not offer sufficient value beyond the cheapest stuff. I too, look forward to hearing anyone’s actual ownership & operating experience with this equipment. They have some intereting and informative tutorials on their site. http://www.glacierbay.com/ Regards, Gord
