Refinishing topsides

I want to know what is the best way to renew the look of your deck. The fiberglass has a few nicks in it and shes looking a little worn. I was thinking that using a rubbing compound and polish would bring her up nicely and then I considered paint. My thoughts on painting bugged me because I wanted my boat to keep the "factroy finish" usually when you repaint, it never looks the same. So my question would be, is there a way that I could make it look professional by painting the deck? can you get the same look as a newer boat? without the crappy repainted look or the cheezy masked off look to the edges... Thanx

Gelcoat

If you have a good gelcoat, I'd recommened fixing the chips and polish it out. There are gelcoat repair kits. And the automotive paint suppliers sell a real good polish. If not, then paint is an option. A two part polyurethane holds up on decks real good. But once you paint you'll always paint. If you have the cash or skill (?) then a new spray on gelcoat would be nice. Fairwinds~~~~~

I sanded out my original old anit skid and rolled

the west marine anti skid paint. It received high marks from practical sailor. The key is is really in the time spent on the prep. I have had it on for two seasons in the north east. It looks pretty decent. I used poliglow product on the other areas that were not non-skid. I looked pretty good in the end.
