I need to refinish my salon table to repair some water damage. I heard somewhere that Hunter uses a special finish on their interior woodwork. What should I use?

I had some white water spots on our salon table. I was able to sand them out with some 220 grit without getting down to the wood. I then just varnished it with 6 coats of Minwax Helmsman satin. I found it was still too much shine so went over it with a very fine 3M pad to match the shine on the finish inside the boat.
