Daly's

I spoke with Hunter in the spring about this and they pointed me to Daly's, Inc in Seattle. The product is called Daly's SeaFin Teakoil. I used it on a new teak interior cabinet that I had built, and it was a perfect match. Check with Hunter first before you buy it. Hunter also offered to sell me some, but I opted to buy it direct from Daly's in the quart can. If you do this, tell Daly's that you DON'T want to pay the hazardous shipping charge and they will waive it. You can reach them on their web site http://dalysinc.com/marine.html The stuff is thin. Soaks in nicely and dries to a hard finish. Use a foam brush and at least 3 coats with a very light sanding between coats. Good Luck!

Refinishing Sole

Mike, Please refer to the archives for articles written by Mike Powell. He describes the method for refinishing the sole with Daly's Profin regular varnish. Profin can be ordered directly from Daly's @ 1 800 735 7019. I just completed refinishing the sole on my 1988 H33.5; I applied six coats of Profin and achieved a beautiful finish. It is a lot of work, but the results are worth it.

Floor finish

I refinished the floor of my 37.5 about three years ago. I simply removed the various pieces, took them home and refinished them during the winter. I sanded them and applied 2 coats of Minwax gloss polyuretane using throwaway foam brushes. They came out looking good and have held up well. I applied the two coats to all sides and edges.

Prep work?

David and/or Bill: How did you prep the deck before sealing it? I've used regular teak oil on my deck for several years (1-2 times a year). Does it have to be stripped beforehand? The new Hunters look great with the Profin finish on the deck. As I said in another post, the Daly's Seafin worked great on the cabinets, but now I must look at the deck. Thanks.

Bill, David?

How did you prep you deck beforehand? That's the next thing I must look at. I've used straight teak oil for several seasons and I wonder if the build-up will cause problems for the Daly's.

Word of caution...

Be sure you take note of David's reply. Daly's makes two products, Seafin and Profin. Seafin is a teak oil probably with some varnish resins in it, and is for walls and cabinets. It's their Profin product that is used on the sole. BTW, does anyone have a cure for all those "marks of character" that accumulate on the sole from its magnetic attraction to anything you are holding in your hands. Have y'all found a good way to fill these dings before applying the Profin?

Dings?

Back acouple of months, or so, Jim Bohart suggested a way to remove the dings using a steam iron. I would think you coule search the archives for this method. Good Luck.
