We're thinking of refinishing the cabin sole on our 1992 HP42 while we're in Grenada (or Trinidad). Anyone have any thoughts or tips on this project?

dont use water based finishes i did this and wish like hell i had not done this ...in my infinite wisdom i had it in my mind that it would be a good product to test and used and now that i have done the test i can see that i need to stick with what i knew to be a good finish ...man don't ya just hate it when a plan does not come together ....from now on i will stick with oil based finish

Many posts on this subject with many opinions. I used polyurathane on my old boat. After sanding old material off I used about 6-8 coats. Started with thinned coats and gradually less thinner in the later coats. Sand between coats and make sure no dust before coating. Use whatever gloss type you want from satin to high gloss. Caution, be careful sanding not to go through the thin veneer.

I plan to do my current boat once the dog is gone.

I spent 15 years in the chemical industry supplying waterborne resins to polyurethane suppliers. W/B PUR technology has come a long way, and I have used with great success on floors at home.the marine environment is very tough as we all know. I chose a solvent based approach when refinishing the sole on our 1998 H376. I have been very pleased with Daly's Profin oil-modified urethane on my cabin sole. (The original OEM finish). Dayly's is a great company to work with. I pulled the sole, sanded down and applied 4-5 coats. Easy application with foam brush, and a beautiful finish that has worn well.

. . .
Put this down about 4 years ago (brushed on, not the spray). Has held up very well, a little slippery when wet but other than that, no complaints.

Thanks all. But I obviously phrased the question wrong. What I wanted to know -
whether anyone had information on having this done in Grenada or Trinidad?
