Reefurl v. Spin-Tec??

Does anyone have knowledge of these brands or products? I must replace the old and dissapointing Hood furler on my C-36 as it finally wrapped around the forestay and destroyed it. These two brands seem more reasonably priced and without using the normal halyard - would avoid the dreaded 'halyard wrap' that probably wrecked my rig. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Funny you should ask! I just submitted a post regarding the Famet Reefurl. I have had mine for about seventeen or eighteen years. Like everything, it is a compromise, but you are right that you cannot wrap a halyard. Since the halyard load on the extrusion is in compression, rather than tension, it won't come apart and has NO bearings, just a delrin disk.There is not much to go wrong, and they have never had a serious failure, in something like thirty years!!! I have had to replace the chain tensioner and the delrin disk this year, the first things that have needed attention since I installed my Reefurl. Not bad for seventeen years! By the way, the Reefurl was one of the very first furlers made that could really take the load of a reefed jib. I have one that is 15 yrs. old and never give it a second thought. Haven't replaced any parts. Last poster mentioned new ownership. Who and where is it so I can file that information away just in case I need a part. Thanks.

The couple who now own Famet, Ron and Tamera (last name forgotten) have the following address: ronfxr@sunflower.com and I think that they are putting together a website. I will check. They live in Kansas, I believe, and are very dedicated to bringing Famet back to prominence. They have parts and brand new furlers in stock.

Wrong Reefurl?!

There must be 2 Reefurls out there. I've been working with a fellow in Eugene Oregon. I've included their website address below. Is this perhaps a different product then the one you guys have had good luck with?
