Is it proper to reef the sail on my daysailer to leave it on the mast after each sail or is this something I should manually (roll up) do. I have a tent and want to leave the main on the boom if possible. What is the best method? Thanks, Bill L

sail covers necessary

Your worst enemy is the sun which will deteriorate the sail unless you have a sun cover. I leave my main on the boom all summer, covered by a sail cover, and the jib furled but with a sun cover sewn on the leech and foot.

cover w/ boom tent

On a Mariner, I just take the sail slides out of the mast & tie sail to boom. The boom tent/cockpit cover completely covers the sail. Cheaper than buying a sail cover & besides my boom tent isn't cut for the extra bulk of the cover & sail slides attached to the mast.
