Is there a trick on neatly reefing the Mainsail. I seem to have trouble getting a neat lap over the booom.

Do you you mean furling

or flaking the main when you take it down? If so, when taking the main down, alternate sides at the mast then work the sail onto the boom pulling the leach aft as you work forward. I hope that makes sense. It takes some practice but does become easier. -Roland S/V Fraulein II

Steps for reefing

First let the sail down on the traveler. Lower the sail to the new tack. Tighten halyard. Tighten the new outhaul being sure to flake the sail under the outhaul line. May need to let off on the sheet also. Tie in reefing lines. Adjust sails to point of sail you want. Try it on a broad reach until you get the hang of it.
