Jiffy reefing?
some photos of your boom and sail would help. Odays of that vintage seem to have "jiffy reefing" as standard, but there are approximately umpteen different ways it can be set up. On my '79 Oday 23, the jiffy reefing lines are external. One line is secured near the port side, aft end of the boom on a fitting, runs up through the aft reefing cringle on the mainsail, then is lead down the opposite (stbd) side of the sail to a block on the aft end on stbd side of the boom, and is secured to a cleat affixed on the stbd side of the boom at about the midpoint. The forward jiffy reefing line is affixed to the mast at a fitting on the port side near the gooseneck, runs up to the reefing cringle, down the stbd side of the sail to a block affixed to the underside of the gooseneck, then is affixed to another cleat on the stbd side of the boom. Sometimes, especially on larger boats, the fore and aft lines are run inside the boom, and/or the lines are combined into one jiffy reefing line.
