Reefing Line Pulleys

I rented a cat in the BVI earlier this year and it had pulleys on the main for the reefing lines. Currently, the reefing lines on my boat go through steel loops affixed to the main. Appears to be a source of friction, making the main harder to raise. So, I plan to put pulleys on the reefing lines in my Hunter 340 and wonder if any of you have done the same or have constructive input on doing so.

Show us a picture if it.

Reefing lines usually attach to the rings at the luff to help pull the main down. Whereas the reefing line from the aft section of the boom passes thru the grommets at the leech and then back down to the boom (attaches here) to pull the main down in unison with the luff reefing lines. When raising the main, I usually have to pull the leech line out of the boom to reduce the friction on the main. I'm not sure if a main-mounted pulley will help me.

Web Lock

A web lock is a small metal plate with two parallel slots. It is also known as a "three bar adjustment slide". You thread webbing twice through the slots and it locks them in place by friction, sort of like a belt buckle. I'm sure you would know what I was taking about if you saw one. They are in the West marine catalog on the same page as the webbing material (last product page in the book).

Thanks Fred

I had looked at your pictures some time ago. We were on Emmanuel this past weekend and I got to take another look at the reefing set up. There are blocks at the reef point tacks on the mainsail. I may add some to the reef points at the clew. Good for you on marrying the blonde...
