I just bought a 93 Hunter 28.I have been replacing all my lines and sheets.I went to do my reefing lines and found only 1 reefing line installed and 1 pull string for the second along with an outhaul line.I would like to install the 3rd reefing line but there is no pull string and I dont want to disassemble the boom at this time.Has anybody got any tricks up their sleeve that will help me get that 3rd reefing line in? Also,I discovered there is no mule block on the port side for the lines to run under the hatch cap to the stay set? Before I pull up the cover, does anybody know if there are provisions for attaching the mule block? Thanks Sorry this is so wordy

How about a shackle?

You said the boat is new to you, are you sure your going to need the 3rd reef line? The reason I ask is because when we first got our boat, I considered adding one because my wife is "horizontally challenged". However she explained to me that if I'm still trying to fly canvas in 25+knt winds she would abandon ship so it really wasn't necessary. Before you start drilling holes, my thought is to install the 2nd reefing line with enough length to reach the 3rd reefing point. Then before you raise sail decide if you will need the 2nd or 3rd reef that day and either tie or use a shackle to that point. You can also set up the first reefing line the same way to reach the 1st or 2nd reefing point.

Great Idea

I never thought of the shackle, thats a great idea.I really dont want to be out in 25+ winds either,I was just trying to maybe get the third line in if there was an easier way. Thanks for your input....
