Reefing hooks on Masthead of a Beneteau First 38?

Hello fellow Beneteau owners. I am a fairly new boat owner/sailor and would appreciate the guidance of more experienced people.

Last weekend I cleaned the anchor locker and decided to go out for some anchoring practice. I found it a bit awkward to place the anchor on the stemhead of my Beneteau First 38, which seems to have 2 pins in the front, and what looks like a pivoting reefing hook further back. Does anybody know what those are intended for, and how I should go about installing the anchor on the stemhead? Also, the furling drum seems to interfere with the shank of the anchor whenever bring it up. Is it a bad installation or a common issue with a workaround?

Bringing the anchor up - tipping into the bottom of the roller furling drum...

We have that issue, too. (It's not uncommon). Depending on the speed of retrieval, and other issues you sometimes can simply put your PROTECTED foot on the rode between the windlass and the drum, and then guide it outboard of the drum until the anchor shank pivots through it's arc. Or you could put a little hook on the anchor and pull it out of the way (maybe a safer if you're concerned with your footwork or you don't wear shoes or some secure sandal).
