Reconditioned Volvo Penta 2002 18hp

Hi everyone, I am considering a reconditioned Volvo Penta 2002 18hp engine as the old engine has given up ghost due to water in the piston heads. Merits aside of buying a) an old engine ( budget dictates this is the only option for me) & b) buying a Volvo Penta, does anyone know if this is an engine that would fit into an Albin Vega (mine is V1727, Vacherin, located in the Algarve Portugal)?

You might get lucky and find someone with direct knowledge of this engine in a vega.
But most people I hear in this group are putting in yanmars or betas. About 13 hp I believe.
You can also find them used.
Does the 2002 have the big flywheel like the old MD6a?

hi, thanks for your input, will check with the guy selling about the fly wheel. will also have a look on the forum and see what other models they are suggesting. I can't afford a new engine, just trying to work out the best practical solution. i had considered an outboard too. regards, jeremy
