If you were to have, say, 6 books on your boat dealing with boat maintenance or operations, what would they be? For the sake of argument, limit it to six because of stowage issues.

My recommendations

I consider these to be my indispensable books: - Peggy Hill's book: "Get Rid of Boat Odors" for the head. - Nigel Calder's book: "Boatowners's Mechanical and Electrical Manual" - Nigel Calder's book: "Nigel Calder's Cruising Handbook" - Chapman Piloting and Seamanship I have learned a lot from Calder's mechanical/electrical book, even though I'm not the most mechanical person around. It's an excellent resource. I try to rotate at least one of the following on board at any given time to remind me I don't really need a bigger fancier boat, with mixed results... - Lin and Larry Pardy: "Cruising in Serafynn" - Stan Grayson: "Sailing Small" - Herreshoff: "The Compleat Cruiser"

My boat is simple, as is the engine. I carry Reed's

nautical almanac, my chart book, a book for identifying plants and animals, and a book of short story fiction. Add to those what ever novel I am currently reading. At home I have six feet of shelf space for boat related books.

6 books

Chapmans Piloting Annapolis book of Seamanship (Rousmaniere) The Complete Sailor (David Seidman) Piloting and Coastal Navigation (AE Saunders) Your favorite chandler's catalog (West Marine or other) for parts identification Your own home made boat owners manual including the manuals for everything on board. I keep mine in a zipped binder. It has checklists for those rarely done routines like spring and fall decommissioning, crew overboard drills, VHF distress calling, specs and measures, etc.

Boat Books

1. Two Calder books (as mentioned below) 2. The Cruiser's Handbook of Fishing (Hardcover) by Scott Bannerot (for those of us who might live off the ocean one day) 3. The Voyager's Handbook - Beth Leonard 4. Two books - on each of bird and seashore life identification. 5. The Sailor's Book of Knots. Sorry this seems to total seven. Always had trouble with math.

Some good suggestions...

Already have Victoria's Secrets on board... LOL j/k Didn't know about the fish book. Have to get that one. I have several Casey's books but they do nothing for me, including This Old Boat. Thanks for the suggestions.
