Recommendations on Hunter 34 through 375

I'm looking at one of the newer Hunter models. Looking at the 340, as well as the 37.5 and newer (2004) Hunter 36. Any advice on the 340 (am looking at a 1999 model) and 1993 37.5?
Is the rounded cockpit worth paying more for? This may be my last boat, so I don't want to screw this up.

Your not really giving us to much to respond to. If you want to retire and sail to Hawaii , your lookin at the wrong boat! My wife and I have a 99-340 and love it. We tool around the west coast from long beach to Catalina and down to SD.it is a great for the two of us for as long as we want and roomy enough that we can have 2 to 4 guest with no problems. Fun to sail, easy to single hand in fair weather and fits in a 30 ft slip. Not sure what else your looking for but there are plenty of threads in the archives.

Thanks, Rick. You're right. My wife and I sail out of San Diego and rarely go much beyond there. No blue water plans. The 340 sounds like a great SoCal cruiser. Do you have any issues with the traveler being routed through the arch? Also, are your gib winches mounted above the companionway? It looks like it would be much easier to single-hand if they were back near the helm, like the new 36 model. Appreciate your time.

You can also search on this site for previous discussions on your questions, including both jib winch position and the traveler lines. Bottom line is that every boat design has compromises, YOU are the only one who can make the call as to whether you can live with them based on your intended use of the boat.

We have sailed our 99 H340 for a dozen years on Lake Lanier, a good sized inland lake north of Atlanta and I find the traveler location to be handy and have had zero problems. I single hand our boat and easily control them while tacking (without an autopilot to assist) so the jib winches are perhaps not ideal, but far from a deal breaker. Much more important to me would be the overall condition of the boat and all its systems.

I have a legend 37.5. I love her! She sails like a dream. Even in heavy weather, reefed appropriately, she is awesome. Very roomy down below. My wife, three kids and two dogs all have a spot. She is also great fun in light wind.

I cruise the Chesapeake bay and coastal Atlantic.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, sometimes work gets in the way of all my fun. The traveler is actually nice up above. It's out of the way and for me at least it actually seems to make handling easier. Yes my wenches are mounted up front. Usually it is not a problem at all. Just adjust which sheets are clutched and it's really not a problem. I suppose I would add a couple of wenches in the back if I had 3500 bucks to spare, but for now, and my mission, they seem to work well.

Thanks to everyone that posted here. It looks like a sweet boat. I think I'll check out the 35.5 and try to make a decision.
