We now keep our boat in Rock Hall (Swan Creek). We had good luck with WM bottom paint which I think is a Pettit SR product. However, on the Northern Chessepeake we accumulated many hard objects that seem similar to barnicles. What works well for you in this locale?

The upper bay has widely variable salt levels which makes for tough comparisons. We spent several seasons moored in the Bohemia R. Using Micron Extra and had decent to disappointing results. This past season with a new old boat we had zero growth using the cheaper version of Hydrocoat. But, she's moored in the Northeast R. Which is even less salt than the Bohemia & Elk rivers.
Advice? Go cheap. If it doesn't perform, try a little pricier paint next time.

I am pretty sure you haul for winter every year so you get to try cheap or better bottom paint and here in Fl we want to get it right staying in water for a few years and if paint does bad job it is $$$$$ so we use the top paint,

We just finished our first season in the mouth of the Susquehanna and used Interlux ACT. This was after many years on the relatively salty Barnegat Bay where we used other higher priced Interlux ablatives with good success. The ACT did fine preventing any hard growth in the relatively fresh water, but there was a tremendous amount of slime accumulated by the end of the year. I'll be looking for a more slime resistant alternative for this year.
I have had outstanding luck with Hydrocoat, and now with Hydrocoat SR. It is high copper ablative. If you can paint a wall, you can paint this stuff. I even thin it out to make sure I don't get too much build up. And it can be dry stored over the winter and still work. The SR is a slime biocide, psycho-methyl death something - under the trade name Ingarol.
I'm about 20 miles SW of Rock Hall, but I imagine the fouling issues are similar. I have used Petit Hydrocoat ablative for years and it does a good job preventing hard growth. Priced right, easy to use, and water clean-up. Even though it's a multi-season paint, I put on one thin coat per year and don't get any appreciable paint build up.

Thanks for the advice. I sure don't want to experience that hard growth if I can avoid it. We've visited Herrington Harbor and enjoyed it very mich. I expect that Rock Hall conditions are similar to both Annapolis and Herrington Harbor. I hope we run into you guys when we visit. Thanks again.
