I have just received an O'day 192 from an old high school friend. It is in pretty good shape, although it has been sitting on a trailer (without a tarp) for the last three years. It is a 25th Anniversary Edition, and came with a few extra features like deck railing and a depth gauge. My first move, of course, will be to scrape the hull and the repaint the boat, as well as buying a new set of sails. It has not been changed in anyway by its previous owners, and I would like advice on what else i should do with the boat. Should I keep the schaefer jib furling unit, and if not, is there something i should replace it with? What type of engine should I buy? (keeping in mind that I have a limited budget) Are there any other accesories i should buy for heavy weather sailing? Thanks

Sail it first

Albert - Many - myself notably included - have fallen into the pit of 'upgrading' tons of stuff before even sailing the boat. Remember - it came pretty good right from the factory! I'd sail her before changing much. As far as the engine I'd go 4 - 6 hp, 2 stroke if the area you're in permits it. Keep it light on the stern if you can. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
