Reccommended diesel maintenance

I recently purchased an O'Day 322. It's my first boat with a Yanmar 2 cylinder diesel. I understand maintenance is very important with diesels, but what is it I should be doing in particular. Should I be putting additives in the fuel to prevent fungi and gelling? The engine is running great and I want to keep it that way. Any input from other owner's will be greatly appreciated.

A few things

I'll bet Yanmar has a specific list that you could find. In the mean time here are some of the things I do. -Check zinc in heat exchanger every month -Drain any water from the water/fuel separator -Periods of low use add fuel additive Every 100 hours: -Change secondary fuel filter (in h2o seperator) -Change primary fuel filter -Change oil and filter -Check belts Every 500 hours: See mechanic to check valve clearances and other such things. A few simple things and a diesel will almost run forever! Good luck!

with your new purchase. We have had our 322 for 3 years and love her. Elliot has good points, I would only add that I change the oil and oil filter every year when I winterize the boat. I have yet to run her over 100 hours a season and change the fuel filters out at the same time. Have added an octane/diesel treatment which seams to help against growth in the fuel. I add a stabilizer during the winter. Good Luck Jeff

Hi Peter, I too just bought a 322. Have the same questions you do about the Yanmar. I just purchased a service manual today that I plan to peruse soon. I go up to S. Carolina this weekend to pick up the boat and bring her back to Florida. Smooth sailing! Glen
