Nice job - is there a back-story to how you came about rebuilding a pirate ship? Very cool.

Thank you. Basically, we built it for adventures with the family and kids. The first one (21’ at waterline) was good, but did not perform as well as I wanted due to the shorter hull. After contacting a naval architect, he redesigned it completely and this one now performs far better, in all aspects. We used most of the hardwood and fixtures from the original, and kept all of the sentimental construction done by my Dad and Mom, which was quite a bit.

This winter will see some additions like completing the stern cabin interior, lighting improvements, etc. For those passengers that like beverages, we built a bar (regular picture and a pano one below) with a 12 volt refrigerator, and that has been a big hit. That was a lot of fun to do.

It is best to host videos on a dedicated video site like YouTube or Vimeo and post a link. Posting just the video file requires the reader to download the file first and then use a video app to play the video. Many will be hesitant to download files from a random post on a forum site.

Looks like lots of fun. Do you have a long enough run to make using the square sails worthwhile? Lake Angelus does not look very big.

Paul;
The longest stretch is about 2.5 miles, so you’re correct on the square sails. We will be taking Her up to northern Michigan (Grand Traverse Bay) this coming spring, which will allow for unlimited runs and testing. That should be a lot of fun.

What form of Keel did you use?
How is the ballast positioned?
She appears to have quite a bit of freeboard.
Does she have a rounded bottom?
I am curious as to how she might handle a challenging sea way.
