Peter, Is Universal the only source? Have you tried to look at non marine uses for that engine?
Just did a google search (my friend) and found this.
Re: M3-20B universal/kubota crossover for parts
That's a Kubota D640 engine from a G6200 tractor. Your local or online Kubota tractor shop will have them, my local shop prices them at $71 each. I found a pair of new ones on Ebay for $40 each about a year ago. Search "Kubota injector nozzle", you'll get lots of hits. There's a lot of used ones there for not much cheaper than new, and probably no better than what you have. Go new. All of the smaller Kubotas use the same nozzle and the part number has changed many times over the years. Pull one of yours out and compare with the ones you are shopping. If it looks the same, it is. The ones that are diferent look way different. All Universal diesel parts except the alternator, exhaust manifold, and water pump">raw water pump can be had from Kubota for a fraction of Westerbeke's criminal prices

There are lots of services out there that rebuild injector pumps, you can shop around a bit for a better prices, or you can see what a new one costs through Kubota? Do not go through a marine supplier, unless you've got bags of money to dispose of! My old CAV Lucas pump cost $1400.00 to rebuild, but they are hard to find and its now as good as new. Good luck with your repairs!

I do believe that he is talking about the pump, not the injectors.
I've probably had a dozen or so rebuilt and never had any problems. It is considerably cheaper than a new one. I've even dismantled this one myself with the help of the chief engineer on a mega-yacht (lovely well lit S/S workbench), which is a total no-no according to the shop manual. However when you are stuck in Bermuda and there isn't one on island and the price for a new one is over a grand plus freight, what did I have to lose by trying to fix it? We got lucky, it was just a speck of dirt, but if we'd needed parts we'd have been out of luck.

You are right Capta. Same issue. Look for the Kuboda D640 engine parts. I saw some Kuboda parts company's selling rebuilt pumps on the web. I like your idea. Make friends with an Engineer and do it yourself. Sure it requires care and putting all the parts back together so they operate correctly.

I figure if a young army mechanic can put a helicopter together (described as a bunch of bolts flying in formation) most of the mechanical things on a boat should be possible to fix.
