rebuilding water pump

[SF Marina Harbor Tenants Assoc]

I new to boating and need to replace the water pump in
my Vega's penta. Can someone tell me what it looks
like and where it's located on the motor in plain
english?

Hi Rene

The water pump on the Volvo MD6A is on the rear of the engine on the starboard side. Very rare that the pump needs replacing, usually needs a new impellor, seals and shat at the very worst. There is a kit obtainable for the renovation. The seals (2) needed are lip seals of the following size 1" x 0.5" x 0.25". One is used to stop oil coming out of the engine and teh other is to stop saltwater entering the pump body. There is a drip hole in the middle of the pump which shows when either saltwater seal or the oil seal has worn (salt water or oil will drip from the hole).
