Rebedding stanchions

I have a loose stanchion....it took a hit last summer as a powerboat alongside pulled out of a tight transient slip. The stanchion was cracked at the weld at the baseplate. I took out the four screws, got the stanchion re-welded at a local shop, and now am ready to re-install.

I read that Butyl tape is the best way to go to prevent leaks. Also, the screws are 1/4 x 1.5 inches slot head pan screws. I want to replace with hex-head.

Does anyone know what type of plate or deck fitting is under there. At 1.5 inches I figure there must be some type of hardware installed in manufacturing.

Does anyone have any recommendations to prevent leakage?

My boat has a balsa core in the deck. I always drill the holes bigger, tape the bottom, then fill with Epoxy. After the epoxy hardens I mark and redrill the holes. I use butyl tape to seal everything then bolt it down.

I think you will find tht the stanchions have alunium backing plate under them. I would try r/r the unit and follow MaineSails video.
