Hello,

I have a 1995 H 336. Need to rebed the stanchions. If anyone has done it before on H 336, any guidance / tips would be greatly appreciated. Are there bolts below the deck that need to be accessed? If so what is the best way? Thanks in advance.

Should not be any bolts below the deck. Just take the old bolts out and rebed with 5200.

And the answer is --- it depends. When your boat was new, the stanchions were mounted with stainless machine screws through tapped aluminum plates embedded in the deck. But over the years, the tapped holes sometimes strip out, and owners then resort to adding locknuts underneath the deck to hold the stanchions in place. On our 336, about half the stanchion bolts have had nuts added by a previous owner. You'll just need to work your way through them and determine what you have. Once removed, you'll want to make sure that the stanchion bases are flat. Take them to a machine shop if they're bent and need to be straightened. Then use a countersink bit on a drill or dremel tool to add some taper to the holes in the deck so that they'll take bedding compound better. I'd recommend getting some of the polybutylene rubber tape from Compass Marine to rebed the stanchions. It's a joy to work with, doesn't make a mess, and lasts forever (well, at least 30 years anyway). I'd suggest you only use Devil's Glue (3M 5200) on things you never ever intend to remove ever again.
