My rear running light appears to keep burning out. The one that was on it burned out early in the season. I replaced it 3-4 weeks ago and the replacement has now burned out. I dont see any voltage spikes or high voltage levels with a voltmeter. In addition the bow running lights are connected on the same circuit breaker and have worked fine all along. Has anyone had a problem like this? What was the cause? Im thinking there must be an issue with either the alternator or the dock side charging system. thanks Mark

How often are you running the lights at the dock?

Mark: Does not seem that the Dock power would cause this problem. If it were the alternator, I'd think that the forward light would be experiencing the same problem. Have you checked the fixture. It would seem that if you have any corrosion or the fixture is not making a good ground it may be causing the problem. It may be easier and cheaper to just try changing out the fixture first. If that does not work I'd run new wire back to the panel.

Don't be in such a rush

I wouldn't be in too big of a hurry to rush to see a problem. From your post it has only been 2 light bulbs. If that is true then just buy some additional bulbs, because most likely you don't have a problem. The bulb just didn't last very long.

Going on 3 years with same bulb

My bulb has lasted three years with use almost every other weekend.

Have same problem

On our '88 Legend 35. It's not bad, on 3d light over 2.5 years, but front bulbs still going strong. Could be a voltage thing. Doesn't burn out often enough to worry about it.
