I have a 1992 Legend 37.5. The water heater makes the water extremly hot to the point we are worried about someone getting seriously burned. I read in the manual about a temperature reset but I can't try that till next week. It involves some disassembly of the dinette and even then I am not sure this will fix the problem. My old boat had a dial like and home water heater. can any one tell me if the reset will work or if they no of an other remedy. Thanks.

what brand?

Most likely it is a Seaward 6 gal. They do not have a temp adjustment. The reset is a overheat protection and won't change the temp at all. So you are pretty much stuck with it.

Stuck Thermostat

Mark, The immersion heater/thermostat unit is similar to a normal domestic one except that the heater element is shorter. Suggest removing thermostat unit from the heater and checking it with a meter. If it is ON all the time, even when the end is put in hot water, it is defective. Should have the off temp printed on the unit. You may find it is same size as a domestic immersion heater stat. If you cannot get the stat out then it will be necessary to remove the whole immersion heater - after draining the calorifier.

My new Seaward 6 gal. makes very hot water.

I assume that it's set this way because it is so small. Very hot water will last longer for a couple of showers. But I had no idea it wasn't adjustable. I would also guess, well, that's the wrong phrase. I would guarantee that if your safety pressure release valve isn't blowing open, that the temperature regulator system is working as it's designed. If not, then the pressure release blows. If that doesn't blow, then the tank blows up along with the boat. Again, guaranteed.

Tempering valve

Mark: If you shop around you should be able to find a tempering valve. This allows you to mix a prescribed amount of cold water with the hot water. This method may extend the amount of hot water and also keep one from scalding themself too.
