Thanks Tom. I hope to be able to check out the headroom thing for myself soon. Glad to hear that in all other respects she's perfect for you.
If anyone reading this is in the NYC area and has a Vega...look no further for crew! I'd be so grateful for the opportunity to go on a day sail or something. Full disclosure...my husband would want to come as well.

We are in our early 30s and have been sailing a few years. We take direction well and bring good snacks.

Welcome, Rachel. We came to the Vega 27 after I had sailed a Contessa 26
which was ideal for single handed sailors ( I mean those who sail alone of
course) and for short couples. Since Faith (another New Yorker) and I are
both 5'11" and up, the Vega is more comfortable but we are still mostly
unable to stand up straight when below. In all other respects the Vega is a
step up from the lovely Contessa. Faster, much more room, huge cockpit
lockers, and like the Contessa amazingly stable. Both boats have been
circumnavigated many times. We have never regretted our choice of a Vega,
though I do sometimes look enviously at boats I could stand up in and have
a separate chart table. Even here in Europe the Vega is amazing value. In
the USA where they seem to be less expensive that must be even more true.
Good luck. Tom, Beowulf, V2977
