Has anyone out there in cyberland rewired a later model O'Day 23. My boat was built in 1983. I don't care for condition of the original wiring and would like to replace it. I'd also like to figure out why the *x!*# mast light works fine when the mast is down, but everytime I step it, the light won't work. I end up hoisting a lantern up the forestay when anchoring at night. Okay, I've vented now, so back to the wiring. Has anyone tried pulling new wire though the cabin roof using the old wire or a snake? I feel that I may have to run an external conduit as a last resort. In some places that would be fine, but it wouldn't be too attractive if leading to the cabin lights. I'd appreciate any comments & ideas. Terry

Same boat...

Terry, I too have an ODay 23 (1979) with a dodgey masthead light. I still have to figure out how to sort out the steaming light (got stopped by the CG last summer). I was thinking about trying to install a spreader light too, I already bought one, now I have to figure out how to run the wiring through the mast, and then through the hull.... Any help you find out would be great! I couldn't bear to run the conduit.....

Mast light works part time

I have an Oday 222 that had the same problem. Mast light worked fine when mast was down, but did not work when mast was up! Sometimes it would flicker on and off. Here's the solution that worked for me. I replaced the Round Body connectors (two pronged brass contacts) that connect mast wiring to deck/thru deck. Boat US catalog # 211946, about $12. After two years of scratching my head and checing all other connections we finally have a mast light. Yours is probably corroded or has a loose connection inside, as there are two tiny srcews that hold wires together. Goog Luck Larry
