My husband and I are new Catilina 270 owners. Our first day out we inadvertently pulled the reef line out of the boom. How do you re-thread it through the boom?

End cap or Wire chase

Hi Diane - Bummer about the reef line. Next time put a stop knot in the end! If there are no other lines you can use as a chase, there are two conceivable ways I can think of: 1) Push a wire chase through (something bendy enough to go into the hole and then turn towards the end, but rigid enough to push through). Duct tape or tie reef line onto chase, pull back through, and voila! 2) Uncrew or drill out rivets in end cap on boom to better access the inside and push line through (possibly with the help of a stick or rod of some sort). I'd try the wire chase method first. Best of luck - you'll get it eventually! Trevor

you may be able to tie a fishing weight to a string and elevate the boom enough for the weight to carry the string down the boom. the wire push method does work if the wire is a stiff enough (the kind used for standing rigging, not running rigging). also, it is very helpful to have a dental pick to retrieve the string from the inside of the boom.

How about a batten?...

...tape the line to a full length batten. You'll have to remove the boom's end cap though.
