Currebt is running through the water and hence anything in the water that
can conduct. Metal is electroplated by running a + current through one
pieces and a - current through another while the metals are immersed in a
conductive liquid. One piece looses molecules of metal which are then
deposited on the other piece. I'm not a scientist and I don't recall which
piece gains the metal but I think its the +. Anyway molecules of metal go
away because of the current. Bronze is tin and copper. Tin beging less noble
goes away first, then the copper. I was told by a surveyor that if the
bronze is looking pink it is because it is loosing the tin. We put zincs on
our steel because they get sacrificed first to save the steel. Our bodies
are big batteries which have elecrolytes to give us electrical potential.
Sodium as in sea water is the most common electrolyte in all of us. Think of
the boats as sitting in a big vat of battery acid. Damage is inevitable but
hastened by by more current. My two cents worth and I could have some of the
concepts confused. If so, somebody please correct me. Walt, Lyric
