Re-routing mainsheet

I have a Hunter 335 on which the mainsheet and travellr are located on the cabin roof just in front of the dodger (I live in Canada so the dodger is a must). The dodger makes it very difficult to adjust the mainsheet from the cockpit. I am considering running the mainsheet along the underside of the boom, down to the base of the mast then back along the deck to a spinlock or similar located in the cockpit. I would like to know if anyone has tried thsi before and what the outcome was.

Need slits cut in window.

Colin: You just need to have a slit cut in the window to allow you to release the jam cleat on either side. Your other option would be to add a sheet stopper to each side to release the mainsheet as required. In this case you would remove the jam cleat from the traveler and use the sheet stopper instead.

That set up works fine.

What you are describing is exactly how the mainsheet is rigged on our 1980 Hunter 30. The sheet is attached mid-boom, with a multiple block system. The sheet runs forward to a block just under the goose-neck, then to a block at the mast step, then to a turning block on the cabin roof and aft - under the edge of the dodger - to a rope clutch, sheet winch and jam cleat on the rear of the cabin top. It works well.
