Has anyone replaeced the wood trim on thier boat with TREX? I ned to replace the teak the holds the companion way dor and the poptop in place and I thought of the TREX, I love wood but would rather sail than work on the boat and I thought this might save me some time. I appreciate any input
Thanks

Is trex the faux wood used to make decks etc.? If so then I made hatch slides out of trex. Too early to tell if it is a good idea but it looks okay to me.

All fake wood with stain and urathane--

When we were in the LA area a few weeks ago I looked at a number of Lowes and Home Depots and couldn't find anything that looked like what you got, especially what you used for steps on the swim ladder.

I bought one kind from Home Depot and another kind on line and don't really like the looks of either that much, but will probably use one or the other on the swim ladder. What is the brand of what you used? Web Site? Where did you buy it?

The stuff I bought once you stain it the grain look goes away even with urethane back on top of the stain.

Thanks,

Sum

Timebandit,
The trim you have looks FABULOUS. Where did you get the "fake wood" Do you remember the name? Thanks for the pics and the info. As I said ,I am looking to save on work so I can sail more =).

The ladder is oak because The bottom step is only supported at the ends.

Handles and rails have no grain and is just fake redwood decking from Home Depot, sanded with 400 and stained with mahagony (red?) using the wipe on, wipe off style.

I like the fake wood because it is full size and easy to work with

The facia on the slider is oak.

Hint-- To get stain off your hands use baby oil and then just dish soap.

I bought this composite decking from HD. Not quite the color I was hoping for, it doesn't match the teak at the companionway(closer match to teak on deck......go figure) The teak I had under the traveler rotted at the screw holes, and this is under some stress when underway.

I'm re-sawing some 5/4 to place under my pulpit bases(bow to aft of pulpit toe rail). It does machine well.
