Oday 30, Re-insatalling a Centerboard
I recently purchased a 1979 Oday 30, hull 161, named "Paloma". The centerboard had been removed and I need to re-install it including wedges and possibly new metal plates. I have read everything I could find on this site that seems to relate to this centerboard system. I still need information about wedge material.
Along with the board, I have the pin, old plates, some new blank plates, some screws, a piece of UHMW material that may have been for new wedges and a pair of long metal plates. The long plates appear to have been used as additional support over the original plates.
In the near future I will haul the boat on our club railway and inspect the trunk and check all dimensions. I will also check the board and pin fit and try to measure for new wedges.
Questions:
Is UHMW material sufficient to support the centerboard pivot pin?
Is there an alignment problem with the pivot pin positioning in the 1979 model?
Are the original size and thickness plates, strong enough to support the load on the pivot system?
Is bolting a problem with this pin support system?
Thanks in advance for any informatiion and experience you can provide.
