Hi all,
Some discussion of cranking Yanmar engines in no. 995 message. If they
have a crank on either the 1 or 2-cylinder engines, they did not when i
repowered in 1991 or so. With the old Volvo MD6A, I had cranked to start
quite a few times, and it was quite feasible. I wanted that feature in
the new engine so chose the Volve 2001 the 1-cylinder, because it had and
crank and neither of the Yamahas had one.
Big surprise when I went to try it. No way. The compression in the
newer engine was just too high. Yes, yes I know all about the
decompression lever and how to use it. When the lever went down the crank
stopped like it hit a wall. So the crank was useless, even on that rather
small engine.
Best, John
