Hello Mr.
Craggs:

I noticed you
are located in Nanaimo. Perhaps we could become the nucleus for a VEGA get together
in B.C.

I have not seen the speed table before but I can offer my experience.. At
15 knots true wind speed, with the standard genoa and a full main ( I've
never used my spinnaker ) , the speeds quoted in the table are pretty close
to what I've measured on my Vega , On the occasion when I have surfed , the
speed has been well over 6 knots .... measured relative to the water, and
this has been close to a beam reach . I have had similar results at lower
wind speeds with the light genoa. If the sea is a bit lumpy though it is
much slower.. At higher wind speeds I usually reduce sail , the waves are
bigger and steeper ( Straits of Georgia ) and speeds are reduced. The
Designer of the Vega , Per Brohal , reckoned she would travel at over 10
knots downwind with a spinnaker.
As far as stability is concerned I have only the data given in the
handbook which gives the righting moment against the angle of heel.. The
righting moment is usually in ft lbs or kgm .At 45 degrees heel the
righting moment is about 9000ft lbs or 1200 kgm. Sometimes this moment is
divided by the displacement
to give the righting arm , commonly referred to as G-Z , in ft or metres.
I am not familiar with the coefficient.

Well, I,m in Puget Sound, on Bainbridge Island. Time has lately
permitted only occasional daysailing, tho', would be a long voyage
(for me) to B.C. Salutations, anyway.

Hello
Gene:

The list
is growing. Maybe a reunion in the San Juan’s will be possibility. By my count
that is four VEGA’s in the Pacific North West. Surely there must be more. I’m
makin’ a list and checkin’ it twice….

Brian I'm a new Vega owner #3233 and live in no Idaho. That's as close to the sound as I
can get. Love to come over and sail in the future.

Hello
Dave, great to hear from you. Maybe you would like to sign up for the Vega
Exchange Vacation Program (VEVP)? I’m making this up as I go along, but several
individuals have expressed an interest. I hope this will become a permanent
list in the newsletter. What do you think Chuck?

Cheers
