RE: [AlbinVega] Re: MD6A raw water pump

Hello fellow Vegans. I recently removed the water pump to replace the
seals and the impeller. After reinstalling it, I found that the pump
direction seems to be reversed. It now seems to pump out towards the
intake hose. When the motor runs it makes lots of bubbles in the bucket
of water instead of drawing water. Turning the pump 180 degrees would
correct the problem, I presume. But if I turn the pump 180 degrees, the
hoses don't line up. Could I have installed the impeller the wrong way?

Hi Trevor,
obviously your boat is now in Southern Hemisphere where (as all know)
water goes down plughole in the opposite sense of rotation?

Trevor,

Did you remove the 'land' in the pump cavity that compresses the rubber arms? I seem to remember that this vital component is handed and therefore can be replaced the wrong way round. This might be the source of you problem. I don't think the impeller can be installed incorrectly, even if the 'arms' are pointing in the wrong direction on re-installation, I assume the initial pump revolution would see them compressed and corrected.

Hope this helps.

Frank, that makes sense. I may have removed and replaced the land. If it is
possible to put it back on the opposite side of the cavity, that's likely
what I did. Is that enough to reverse the flow? I hope you're right.
Thanks very much. Trevor.

Frank, I re-read your email, and it would appear that the land itself
can be flipped 180 degrees. I will try flipping it back. If that
doesn't work, I may take John's K's sage advice and move the boat into
the southern hemisphere. If that doesn't solve the problem, at least
I'll be warmer while I toil away in the bilges of Mystic Rose. Thanks
again. Trevor V2915
