Hello: I'm not sure what the previous owner left in place, but the previous
arrangement was a 1 1/4 inch OD bronze stern tube glassed into the hull, with
a bronze casting on the after end into which the cutless bearing was pressed.
Depending on shaft size of your repower (mine's 1 inch), you'll need to
either turn down a standard cutless bearing to a light interference fit, or
ream out the casting for a standard bearing size. I did a little of both and
set the bearing with a setscrew and Loctite.
The stern tube extends into the hull maybe 8 inches, while the casting
extends out side the hull about 1 1/2 inch as I recall. Just peel away
fiberglass until you hit bronze and you should be ok. I reset the casting in
epoxy to eliminate some looseness. Email me with questions. Bill Bach
