IRT the recent questions on outboard vs. inboard for a vega. I sailed
Fortunes Lady (V1469) from Chesapeake Beach, MD where I purchased her to
Portsmouth, VA and have only an 8 hp four stroke honda outboard. I had 5-6
seas in the ches. bay the second to last day and while the engine had no
problems pushing her along the pitching caused the prop to come out of the
water quite a bit. I think an outboard would be fine for day cruising or
just getting into your harbour but I would recommend a long shaft model.
I'll be installing one of the betas available from the VAGB next winter or
so. I simply dont like the idea of having any more gasoline on board than I
have to.
