Is the mast down or up? If down I was able to run a pieces of wire through the mast and use that for a pull through. For running while up I invented the "mast snake". Bass fisherman frequently fish with plastic worms weighted with lead heads. The heads look
like bullets with a hole for the fishing line through the center. I strung 8 of them in a row with loop on the flat end to tie the messenger line to. The weight and flexible design of the snake allowed it to easily slip past obstructions in the mast.

(There's a cross brace inside the mast where the spreader bases are attached and it can be difficult to get past.) The mast snake had no problems. since this is my invention I only charge $500.00 for others to use unless they are Vega sailors. For them it's
free. A good tip is to leave a messenger line in the mast for things like running VHF cable. wire for a windex light. Masthead light, etc. For the hardware I attached to the top of Lyric's mast I used pop rivets. By not tightening them enough to snap off
the rod attached to the rivets I left a number of little spike which made it difficult for birds to perch up there.

speaking of masts and rivets, some of the proctor masts on the Series 1's had riveted track. Considering the age of those rivets and if it hasn't already been done it might be a good plan to replace them. I had noted that a number of the rivets on Lyrics first
mast were gone. Fastenal carries the rivets needed to do this as they require a rivet with a countersunk head, They can be difficult to find. Walt

I've stitched lines end to to end, wrapped the joint in electrical tape and had no problems pulling them through the mast.Usually, I use a small diameter (1/8") messenger line of braided masons twine fastened with a running hitch or series of half hitches to the bitter end of the old line (wrapped with electrical tape) and pull the messenger line
through the mast with the old line.
Next I use a running hitch or series of half hitches to attach the messenger line to the new line at the mast base, wrap the hitches with electical tape and continue wrapping past the end of the new line onto the messenger line,
gradually tapering the wrap to form a cone or point. Pull the new line through. The "cone" of electical tape helps prevent hangups.

Obviously, if there is a shackle or something on the new line, you would want to attach the bitter end of the new line to the end of the messenger line that comes out of the mast head and pull it down the mast.

I have never had problems with either method.
