there is no way in hell that i will belive that an outboard is any kind of
improvement to a Vega..... outboards suck.... no two ways about it...

Aren't you being a little harsh? The big advantage to an outboard is
the ease of service. If you have a problem with the engine, you can
just take it off and work on it. Knock on wood, the only major
engine work I've had to do to my 28 year old Volvo Diesel is have the
injection pump and injectors rebuilt to the tune of $600. Doesn't
count my time and labor to pull them out and put them back in.

I would also have to agree with the docking advantage - the Vega is a
miserable boat to manuever in a harbor!! The ability to turn the
outboard and manuever in the harbor sounds like a big plus.

An inboard is great until it breaks!!

I agree about the manueverability of an inboard while docking or making way
through a crowded harbor, at present I have my ol O-21 gas inboard and an 8
h.p. Evinrude mounted on a bracket on the transom. I use the outboard to
move about in the marina and the inboard when out to sea. It's the "belt
and suspenders", maybe a bit overkill but works well for me. ( until a
windfall drops $10,000 in my lap)...Zo.
